I got the message in the post below today on Tumblr. My first TumblSpam. Spam has been around for a while, but what I don’t understand is why it hasn’t gotten any better. And worse, why it’s still working.
Spam email, Facebook messages, Twitter followers, and now Tumblr messages are so obvious to me. Clearly this is not a real person. Clearly I will not manually enter the link in my Web browser and press Enter.
Clearly someone is.
A lot of someones. But I do not understand how that is possible. Is the promise of a naked woman that enticing? So much so that you would kiss your personal privacy, the security of your computer’s data, goodbye?
Perhaps it’s an Adam and Eve thing. One little look can’t hurt, right? Besides, then we’ll know. And that’s just what these ridiculous spammers and hackers are banking on. Curiosity, pervertedness, and sheer stupidity.
But hey, if it ain’t broke, right?
Maybe, but if I was a spammer, I am pretty sure I would angle this a bit better. Start small and subtle. Make things look a little, no a lot, more legit. It’s not that hard. Spelling things correctly is a good start. Not use a link like “datelink3”. This seems obvious to me.
Maybe I should get into the spamming business. Phish some credit cards and account passwords and retire on a remote island (that I can sell you a Timeshare at) with my buddy, the Nigerian Prince SomethingOrOther.
Ever fallen for spam?
